Reading for Today: Colossians 3:12-17

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. Colossians 3:15

To promote “Peace on Earth,” we need to first be in harmony with ourselves and with God. Through Jesus Christ, we may be transformed into “peacemakers.” To better express this thought, I have written the following poem.

Lord, you are “The Great Transformer.”
You can bring hope to the hopeless and strength to the weak,
Turn hatred into love and anxiety into serenity.
Am I helping you change me, Lord?
You can bring faith to the faithless and tolerance to the intolerant,
Turn cruelty into kindness and arrogance into humility.
Am I helping you change me, Lord?
You can bring patience to the impatient and wisdom to the foolish,
Turn selfishness into generosity and indifference into caring.
Am I helping you change me, Lord?
You can bring harmony to discord and peace where there is strife,
Turn your followers into your peacemakers here on earth.
Am I a peacemaker yet, Lord?

Prayer for Today:
Lord, you have shown us a pattern for living. Let us be open to your transforming powers. Fill our hearts with your love and peace so that we may become your “earthly peacemakers.” Amen.
