The Central Christian Church
Habitat for Humanity House in Decatur
On Tuesday, May 2, 2006, ground was
broken for the new Central Christian Church Habitat for Humanity House
#50 at 1735 North 28th Street! In March, Central Christian Church presented
$40,000 to Habitat for the new construction of this house. This gift represents
10% of funds contributed to the 2003-2006 capital campaign. Present at
the ground breaking were four of Central's ministers; Dean Simcox, Habitat
President and member of Central; the homeowner; and several other Central
members and Habitat supporters and Volunteers.
If you are interested in volunteering,
you just need to show up at the work site at 1735 North 28th Street. Extra
hands are always welcome to hammer, carry, clean and assist. No building
experience is necessary. Volunteers are also needed to provide snacks
and drinks during work sessions. If you are interested, contact Pastor
Gretchen.
Check back to this site often for
current photos and updates on the progress of the house!

April 5, 2007 -- Interior work has continued throughout the winter
and now the pace is picking up as volunteer crews are able to
return to exterior work as well. The house was bustling with activity
this morning as crews were preparing the exterior so that concrete
can be poured for driveway and sidewalks. Inside, beautifully
crafted trim was being installed to window sills, kitchen cabinets
were being prepped for hanging and the water heater was being
installed. Drywall and priming has been completed and the floors
are all finished. Carpet tack has been installed for carpets in
the living and bed rooms. The house is shaping up and will soon
become a home for Unity and her children. The house should be
completed and dedicated by early summer. Volunteers are always
needed on Thursday and Saturday mornings!
