O Holy Night

2002 Advent Devotion Collection

December 21
READING: Genesis 40

And one night they both dreamed -- the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison -- each his own dream, and each dream with its own meaning. Genesis 40:5

As I think about this bible passage, I am reminded of a canoe trip that I took in high school. This trip was sponsored by our region and consisted of high school students through out Illinois. We met in Rock Island and traveled to the Boundary Waters in Northern Minnesota. There we spent a wonderful week canoeing.

Ever since that trip I have dreamed of wanting to return to the Boundary Waters. This was going to be the year for me to take this trip. Everything was in order for my dream to come true.

This past June, God had a different plan for me. My dream trip was quickly thrown out the window when emergency surgery came my way. Now as I recover I am still dreaming of the canoe trip and hopefully next year my dream will truly come true.

We can all dream of things we would like to do but God is always watching and sometimes decides that now isn't the right time for our dream to come true. As we approach this Christmas season, may all our dreams come true.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank you for our dreams. During this season and all through the year help to make our dreams come true. Amen -- Janet L.
