 Central's Stained Glass Entrance

The stained glass window over the new West Entrance was designed, constructed and installed by the Hopcroft Stained Glass Studio, Kansas City, Missouri.

It features the Red Chalice and St. Andrew's Cross (the symbol of the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ). The color red represents the sacrifice of Jesus Christ; the chalice denotes the centrality of the sacrament of the Lord's Supper in the worship life of the Christian Church, and St. Andrew's Cross reflects the Scottish heritage of the Christian Church.

Above the Chalice is the dove of the Holy Spirit, with beams emanating from it, denoting that the power and authority of the church are given to the church by the Holy Spirit of God.

Around the Chalice are symbols of life and nuture--the grape vines and wheat not only recalling the bread and cup of the sacrament, but also the self-designation of Christ: "I am the Vine," and "I am the Bread of Life."

The round medallions at the bottom right and left of the window enclose the Greek letters Alpha and Omega, recalling the words of Christ indicating that He was the beginning and end of all things.

The center medallion, just over the doors, depict the five loaves and two fishes which Jesus fed the multitudes of five thousand. The symbol is a reminder to the congregation, as they leave the building to return to the world, that our purpose in coming to worship is fulfilled only as we leave to serve the world's hungry, hurting, and lost.
