The internationally acclaimed Choir of Clare College from Cambridge, England will present a concert of choral music on Monday, September 19, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. at Central Christian Church, 650 West William Street, Decatur, Illinois. Known to choral musicians as the home of John Rutter, Clare College has garnered international attention with its inspired music making. Under the direction of Tim Brown, the choir has toured internationally to Russia, the Middle East and throughout Europe and the United States. The choir frequently performs in Britain's major concert halls with many of the UK's leading orchestras. The choir has an extensive discography boasting a 2003 recording of John Rutter's requiem which was an Editor's Choice in The Gramophone magazine. It consequently was nominated for a Classical BRIT Award and gave the Naxos label its first number one in the classical charts. The choir also has several recordings on the Collegium label including Illumina, an exploration of the theme of light, which was runner-up for a Gramophone Award in 2000. As part of their current tour to the United States, the choir will perform in major venues across America in Dallas, St. Louis, Chicago and New York. The Decatur concert is possible because of the special relationship between the Millikin University Choir and Clare College. The ensembles have collaborated in exchanges since 2000.
