GREAT START (COUNSELING)

A loving, lasting marriage is most likely to result when a couple has strong relationship-building skills. It is particularly important that a couple acquire these skills early in marriage. To help you begin your life together, we provide GREAT START, a program designed to help you prepare realistically for your marriage by building a skilled, happy, and growing relationships. GREAT START includes two components: participating in the PREPARE inventory, and COUPLE COMMUNICATION.

PREPARE/PREPARE MC

PREPARE and PREPARE MC are questionnaires designed to help you better understand yourself, your partner and your relationship. The officiating pastor for your wedding will administer the questionnaire appropriate for you in an appointment arranged for this purpose, or you may complete the inventory immediately after your consultation. Please, allow up to one hour for completing the questionnaire. Following the scoring of the inventory, each couple will participate in three feedback sessions arranged with the officiating pastor. Because your PREPARE Inventory will be sent to Minneapolis for computer scoring, it must be completed two weeks prior to your first feedback session.

COUPLE COMMUNICATION

Couple Communication is a day-long workshop, offered twice per year on a Saturday, focusing on building relationship communication skills such as talking, listening and conflict resolution. The workshop is usually taken before marriage, but may be taken up to one year after.

A detailed brochure of the GREAT START program is given to each couple during their initial consultation with the Wedding Coordinator.
